5. Remove the Pre-Combustion Chamber Index Tool

and repeat steps 2-4 for the second pre-combustion

chamber; then install the glow plugs and tighten to

18 ft-lb.

6. Install the unit injectors (see Fuel/Lubrication/Cool-

ing).

7. Install the governor linkage (see SPEED GOVER-

NOR in this sub-section).

8. Install the camshaft (see CAMSHAFT/ROCKER

ARMS in this sub-section). At this point, the cylin-

der head is ready for installation on the engine block.

Installing

1. Prior to installing the cylinder head, a head gasket of

the correct thickness must be selected in order to

maintain adequate piston to cylinder head clearance.

To select the correct cylinder head gasket, use the

following procedure.

A. Rotate the crankshaft until one of the pistons is at

top-dead-center (TDC) as indicated by a dial indi-

cator.

DE330

B. Using a depth micrometer, measure and record

piston protrusion above the cylinder deck plane.

DE386

C. Use steps A and B to measure and record piston

protrusion on the other piston.

D. Use the piston with the highest protrusion to

select the appropriate gasket from the following

chart.
