Using the built-in tuner
Press the UP and DOWN buttons at the same time to enter tuner mode.
Play the open string you wish to tune. The tuner will auto-detect the pitch of the
string.
y
An upward-pointing arrow in the display indicates that the string is sharp.
y
A downward-pointing arrow in the display indicates that the string is flat.
y
An X in the display indicates that the string is in tune.
When finished, press both UP and DOWN a second time to exit tuner mode and
return to normal operation.
Restoring Factory Programs
You may restore either one factory program or all the factory programs to their
original settings. Turn on the Playmate Guitarist while holding down both the UP
and DOWN buttons. Follow the prompts on the screen to restore the programs.
At each prompt, press STORE for “yes” or BYPASS for “no.”
To restore just one program, press BYPASS at the ALL PRGRMS? prompt. The
Playmate Guitarist will then prompt you for the program number you want to
restore.

Description
PLAY
Puts the unit in Play mode. The Display shows which of the 70 programs is currently
selected. Programs are numbered A1 – A9, B1 – B9, … G0 – G9.
COMP/ LIMIT
Compression (C1 – C9) evens out the level of the audio by bringing down the high
levels and boosting the low ones. Limiting (L1 – L9) controls only the high levels.
DIST
Provides 11 types of distortion: Acoustic (Ac), Tube Clean (tc), Rhythm (ry), Overdrive
(Od), Distortion (dt), Blues (bL), Fuzz (FU), Lead (Ld), Metal (Mt), Stack Drive (Sd) and
Combo Drive (Cd). Experiment with these to hear their qualities.
DRIVE
This parameter of the DIST module provides increasing levels of drive/gain (1 – 99).
Select Pd to assign DRIVE control to the expression pedal.
EQ
A four-band equalizer with values 01 – 50, broken down as follows:
01 – 10:
attenuated highs and emphasized lows
11 – 20:
less attenuation of highs and emphasis of lows
21 – 24:
emphasized midrange
25:
flat EQ curve
26 – 30:
emphasized highs
31 – 40:
attenuated lows and emphasized highs
41 – 50:
emphasized presence and lows
NR
A combination of two noise-reducing effects. Hum elimination, the left digit of the
value, cuts out the frequency that contains the hum (60Hz). Noise reduction, the right
digit, gates the signal (mutes it until its level rises above a certain point). Their possible
values are as follows:
Left digit 1 – 9:
Increasing levels of hum elimination (60Hz harmonic notch filters).
Right digit 1 – 9:
Increasing levels of gate threshold.
A
zero
in either digit indicates the effect is turned off.
CAB
Emulates speaker cabinets of various sizes, as follows:
C1:
A single 12” driver cabinet
C2:
A 2 x 12” driver cabinet
C3:
A 4 x 10” driver cabinet

Description
FX1
This module gives you a choice of the following mono effects. Where the second
character is
P
, the effect is controlled with an optional expression pedal.
U0 – U9, UP: Auto Wah
– A wah sound controlled by playing intensity. Higher values
indicate higher input sensitivity.
h0 – h9, hp: Phaser
– Adds a duplicate signal that is delayed a bit, giving your guitar a
shimmery, swooshing sound. Higher values result in more intensity.
t0 – t9, tP: Tremolo
– Varies the volume of the signal, creating a rising and falling
effect. Higher values result in greater depth of variation.
r0 – r9, rP: Ring Modulation
– Modulates the amplitude of the signal, giving it a
metallic sound. Higher values result in greater modulation depth.
y0 – y9, yP: Cry
– Adds a human-like crying effect to the sound. Higher values equal
greater intensity.
S0 – S9, SP: Random Sample and Hold Step Filter
– Changes the filter cutoff
frequency to a new pseudo-random value at a fixed time interval, producing an
arpeggiator-like sound.
A0 – A9: Slow Attack
– Reduces the attack rate of the signal, slowing the rate at which
the volume rises when you attack a string. Higher values equal higher sensitivity.
n0 – n9: Auto Pan
– Pans the signal back and forth from left to right at a constant rate
determined by the PARAM setting. Higher values result in increased pan depth.
F0 – F9, FP: Flanger
– Shifts the pitch of the signal up and down, creating a swirling
effect. Higher values result in longer delay.
L0 – L9, LP: Rotary Speaker
– Emulates the sound of an organ’s rotating speaker.
Higher values result in greater intensity and pan depth.
C0 – C9, CP: Chorus
– Emulates a chorus of multiple instruments. Higher values result
in greater modulation depth.
P0 – P9: Pitch Transpose
– Transposes the pitch of the signal either up or down.
P0 – P4 transpose the pitch down a minor third, a major third, a perfect fourth and a
perfect fifth respectively. P5 – P9 transpose the pitch up in the same manner.
PU: Variable Pitch Transpose Up
– Transposes the pitch upward in semitones from 0
to 2 octaves according to the setting of the PARAM module for FX1.
Pd: Variable Pitch Transpose Down
- Transposes the pitch downward in semitones
from 0 to 2 octaves according to the setting of the PARAM module for FX1.
OF:
Turns off FX1.
PARAM for
FX1
Modifies the operation of the effect selected for the FX1 module. Changing between
effect types with dissimilar value ranges will scale this value accordingly. For example, if
you set Phaser to PARAM=63 and then switch to the Auto Wah effect, its PARAM value
will be 12. Changing back to Phaser will result in a PARAM value of 63. PARAM settings
are broken down as follows:
1
–
99:
For Auto Wah, Phaser, Tremolo, Step Filter, Auto Pan, Flanger and Chorus,
indicates the rate of the effect. For Ring Mod, indicates the rate of the modulation. For
Slow Attack, indicates the rate of the attack. For Rotary Speaker, indicates the rate of the
speaker rotation.
For Pedal Pitch Transpose Up and Down, indicates the amount of pitch change in 1/4
semitones (from 1/4 semitone to 2 octaves). Wet/dry mix is fixed at 100% wet.
0 – 20:
For Cry, indicates the sensitivity of the filter modulation. For Pitch Transpose
with a fixed interval, denotes the wet/dry mix from 0 (100% dry) to 10 (50% wet, 50%
dry) to 20 (100% wet).
Pd:
Indicates that the expression pedal controls the parameter.
OF:
Indicates FX1 is off.
FX2
This module provides stereo versions of all effects from FX1, except for Flanger, Rotary
Speaker, Chorus and Pitch Transpose. FX2 also gives you the following additional effect:
