Formatting SD cards and size problems:
If you did not buy a brand-new
SD card and decided to use one from another device, be aware that
sometimes the card can get formatted into non-standard camera formats –
formats for other devices that neither the camera nor your PC will
recognize. Symptoms include the card showing a much smaller capacity
than its rated size. Unfortunately, your Windows PC can’t undo the
temporary damage – it is blind to the non-Windows format of the card.
The easy answer is to just go buy another card, but your next best bet is to
find a good computer friend who likes Linux/Unix. Ask them to use the
Linux software called “GParted” to remove all the partitions on the card
(WARNING: all your data will be lost! So save it off) and reformat back
to its original size, using the FAT32 format (they will know what you are
asking if you show them this paragraph). You can also try the software -
