Loopbacks on the T1/E1 port
Two loopbacks are available on the T1 or E1 port—line and equipment loopbacks.
The line loopback tests the T1/E1 line, simultaneously transmitting data received on
the line at the T1/E1 port to the network port, looping it back to the T1/E1 port itself,
and blocking any incoming data on the network port.
The equipment loopback tests the Speed Touch 591s itself. Data received on the
SHDSL line at the network port is carried through the Speed Touch 591s, then looped
back to the network port when it reaches the T1/E1 port. An AIS is transmitted on
the T1/E1 port while the loopback is in place.
Both types of loopback can be either latched or timed. Timed loopbacks have a fixed
duration of 5 min, although the loopback can be cleared manually before the 5 min
expires.
Latched loopbacks remain in place until they are removed manually or the Speed
Touch 591s is reset.
Note — If a loopback is already active, an error message is displayed.
Caution — When a line loopback is set up, the equipment connected
to the T1 or E1 port must provide the clock signal, because the clock
signal on the Speed Touch 591s is looped back.
