A framing format for T1 links which provides a 24-frame multiframe with
twenty-four 64-kb/s channels per frame, a 4-kb/s FDL, and CRC-6
frame-check sequence over each multiframe.

HDLC
high-level data link control
HDLC is an ISO standard for serial data communication. A family of
bit-oriented protocols providing frames of information with address, control,
and frame-check sequence fields. It is considered a superset of several other
protocols, such as SDLC, LAP, LAPB, LAPD.

IAD
integrated access device
An IAD is a device that multiplexes a variety of communications
technologies in the customer’s premises onto a single telephone line for
transmission to the carrier. It also demultiplexes the incoming streams into
their respective channels.
Internet
The Internet is a network of networks, connecting tens of thousands of
government, university, and private computers worldwide. It uses the
TCP/IP protocol stack as a basis of communication.
IWF
interworking function
An IWF is the translation of higher-level protocols between two (or more)
transmission media.
LCD

LED
light-emitting diode
An LED is a semiconductor diode that emits light when a current passes
through it.
LMI
local management interface
LMI is a frame relay link management protocol defined by Digital
Equipment Corporation, Northern Telecom, Cisco, and Stratacom.
