TCA profile types and parameters
System statistics generated on the Speed Touch 591s can be used to monitor two
types of congestion—frame relay card congestion and frame relay stream
congestion. Two corresponding types of TCA profiles are available:
•
FRCC
•
FRSC
On the Speed Touch 591s, FRCC congestion corresponds to congestion on the Speed
Touch 591s itself, and FRSC corresponds to congestion on the user port.
When a TCA profile is configured for the Speed Touch 591s, you must first choose
the type of congestion for which to define thresholds and profiles. Procedures for
defining a Speed Touch 591s TCA profile differ slightly depending on whether
FRCC or FRSC is chosen. However, both types of congestion are determined by the
same frame relay thresholds —ACT, SCT, and MCT. Refer to Alcatel 7350 ASAM
Technical Practices for further information on these thresholds.
TCA profiles for the Speed Touch 591s are based on two parameters:
•
the maximum permissible time, in seconds, that frame relay thresholds can be
exceeded before an alarm is generated
•
the frame relay thresholds ACT, SCT, and MCT expressed as a percentage of
resources used
These two parameters interact. The system reads the values of the three frame relay
congestion thresholds every second and compares them with the configured values.
If it finds that a threshold has exceeded the configured value, it increments a counter
to indicate that this frame relay threshold has been exceeded for that second, the next
second, and so on.
Meanwhile, the system compares the value of this counter with the threshold that is
set for the maximum permissible time, and if the threshold has been exceeded for
longer than this time, an alarm is generated. The profile manages a two-tier threshold
system to detect frame relay congestion on the Speed Touch 591s system resources
or the line.
