8.4 Configure PEF
8.4.1 PEF/PET (Platform Event Filter/Trap)
An IPMI Event can be compared against
‘filter table’
entries, if matched, a selectable
action such as a system reset, power off or Alarm generation will be triggered. The
alert description of this document will focus on the LAN PEF (Platform Event Filter). A
specific format of SNMP Trap used for system management alerting. It is used for IPMI
Alerting as well as alerts using the ASF specification. The trap format is defined in the
PET (Platform Event Trap) specification. See
[PET]
and
[ASF]
for more information.
The ShMC maintains an event filter table that is used to select the events to trigger a
page (or other action) and the actions to perform. Each time the ShMC receives an
event message (either externally or internally generated) it compares the event data
against the entries in the event filter table. The ShMC scans all entries in the table and
collects a set of actions to be performed as determined by the entries that were
matched.
Event filtering is independent of Event Logging. Event Logging and Event Filtering (and
associated actions) are enabled/disabled independent of each other.
The PEF includes but is not limited to the following configurations:
Alert Policy Table
Deferred Alerts
PEF Postpone Timer
PEF Startup Delay
Event Message
PEF actions
PEF Filter Table (Please refer IPMI spec 2.0 Table 17-2, Event Filter Table Entry for
more details)
etc.
The Advantech ShMC shall follow PICMG 3.0 spec to support PEF/PET to send SNMP
trap to the SMS. The PEF can either be configured via Advantech ShMC CLI, IPMItool
or SNMP PEF commands.
