V-Pin Style Optical Budget Specifications:
The optical budget for the TTC-1000’s V-Pin style optical interface is =
8.7dB
HSC cable: 5.7dBm/12 (dB/km) = 470m => (10% margin)
400m approx. 1300 ft
POF cable: 5.7dBm/0.23 (dB/m) = 24.8m => (10% margin)
22.3m approx. 73 ft
The fiber optic interface has the ability to operate either point to point or can be
daisy chained with other intelligent electronic devices. A switch, S1, is provided
to allow the user to select either point-to-point or repeat. Setting S1 to REPEAT
passes the signal received on the fiber to the Tx fiber port without any delay.
In addition, three diagnostic indicators are provided for troubleshooting: Tx
indicates that the fiber interface is transmitting data to the DNP or MODBUS
master, Rx indicates that the fiber interface is receiving data from the DNP or
MODBUS master, and Re-Tx if S1 is in the REPEAT position and received data
is being re-transmitted through the Tx port to the next IED in the chain.
Figure 3.17b is an outline drawing for the NEMA 4 module showing the fiber
interface and the location of switch S1 and diagnostic indicators Tx, Rx, and Re-
Tx. Figure 3.17a illustrates the location of the Tx and Rx connectors and indicator
LED’s on Panel Mount units equipped with fiber optic interface.
