System Monitoring and Alarms
The NuPRO-840 performs system monitoring and alarming functions
using the flexible, industry standard System Management Bus (SMBus).
The SMBus is based on I
2
C s erial bus architecture and consists of a two-
wire interface and an alert signal. The SMBus allows two-way
communication between intelligent on-board and system devices. Each
device has an associated address on the bus and may interrupt the
processor using the alert signal.
The SMBus controller is located within the ICH2 chip. In addition to the
ICH2 chip, there are several slave devices that reside on the SMBus also.
These devices and their addresses are listed below:

The table below lists the location, function, and address of each SMBus
slave device used on the NuPRO-840.

Chassis Intrusion
NuPRO-840 implements a chassis intrusion circuit that can latch a
chassis intrusion event even when the system is turned off, as long as
battery or standby power is still present. The chassis intrusion interrupt is
fed into the 83627HF hardware monitor chip. The chassis intrusion circuit
can only be reset via software using SMI# Mask Register 2 as described
in the 83627HF data sheet.
