Conventional Router: This router type should be selected if the network management tool
such as LonMaker

has a direct interface to the IP network. This is the type usually rec-
ommended for most applications. With two GadgetGateways each set to this type, one can
go from 709.1 to IP to 709. In Figure 4.1 below, the associated network diagram would
have 3 channels. A network management tool that supports IP/852 such as LNS(Lon-
Maker) could be directly connected to the IP channel. Network tools that do not support
direct IP connection would have to be connected to one of the 709.1 channels. In either
case the IP channel shows up in the network management tool but may be labeled as an IP
channel or a 709.1 channel depending on the tool.
Paired Virtual Router: This router type could be selected if the network management tool
has a direct interface to one of the 709.1 channels. Two gateways together will act as a sin-
gle ANSI/EIA 709.1 Router. In other words the pair of gateways will act as a single router.
The IP channel will be transparent to the network management tool. This setup is shown in
Figure 4.2 below.
