GadgetGateway Firmware Upgrade
* Configured routing has been fixed to filter correctly in both Directions. Also Zero
Length domain packets are now forwarded correctly
* Additional Manual configuration options have been added. The user can now edit the
SNFT and GFT tables of each side of the gateway.
Changes Present in firmware version 2.00B3 from version 1.07 -----------------
* Fixed LonTalk driver problem present only in 2.00B2 that prevented the GadgetGateway
from communicating at all on the LonTalk interface (FTT-10 or TP-1250)
* The 2.0 version has multicast support in manual mode. This allows you to use up to 255
GadgetGateways per domain. If GadgetGateways are connected via a LAN (no routers)
we recommend manual mode using multicast. Using multicast over a WAN requires mul-
ticast-capable IP routers.
* Flood mode was added to versions 1.06 and 1.07 which we carried over into the 2.xx
versions. Any LON networks connected to GadgetGateways in Flood Mode become one
large virtual subnet. In contrast with Configured and Repeater modes, Flood mode
changes the gateways into what is essentially a physical layer repeater with a two major
exceptions: 1) Packets with CRC errors are discarded. 2) Unlike a good physical layer
repeater, the gateway can be saturated. NOTE: When in Flood Mode, LON network man-
agement tools will not be able to communicate with the GadgetGateway. The Gadget-
Gateway is completely transparent to all LON devices.
* The ability to view and set SNFT and GFT tables has been added. With this feature, it is
possible to manually configure the GadgetGateway as a configured router without using a
LON network management tool. It also gives the administrator additional control over
routable traffic.
* Many performance enhancements including a much improved IP network stack. Testing
with version 2.00B3, packet throughput in both directions (LON to IP and IP to LON) was
equal to the channel capacity of a 78kbps FTT-10 channel. Testing on TP-1250 channels
has not yet been performed.
Known problems and issues with version 2.00B14:
* When leaving a multicast group (either because of a group address change or a change
to Unicast mode) the GadgetGateway should send a "leave group" message to all multi-
cast routers. Testing indicates that in some configurations this packet is never sent. This
is only a problem when GadgetGateways are separated by IP routers. This problem will
not affect LAN configurations.
* The config server mode support has been removed. We plan to redesign some of the
device management and will add the config server support again when it is working prop-
erly. Until then you should either use the i.LON config server or use manual mode.
* Gadget Gateways using the Net+40 CPU (all gateways as of 4-2003) can have serious
performance problems when they have a channel member in their channel list that does
not respond to ARP messages or does not exist on the network. This only occurs if the IP
