NOTE:
THIS SYMBOL POINTS OUT
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WHICH, IF NOT FOLLOWED, COULD
ENDANGER THE PERSONAL SAFETY
OF YOURSELF OR OTHER PEOPLE.
BEFORE STARTING
Carefully read and follow all instructions in this
booklet as well as all those provided with the
equipment on which this engine is used.
FOR THE FIRST 25 RUNNING HOURS, DO
NOT USE THE ENGINE WITH MORE THAN
70% OF THE MAXIMUM POWER.
OIL RECOMMENDATIONS
The engine is shipped without any oil. Use a
quality detergent oil for four-stroke engines.
The detergent oil keeps the engine clean and
prevents formation of sludge. We advise the
use of a multigrade oil (SAE 10W/40) suitable
for a temperature range of -20°C too +45°C
(-4F to 112F) (fi g. 4).
OIL LEVEL: make sure the engine is level (fi g.
5). Clean area around the fi lling cap. Remove
the cap and pour slowly (fi g. 5) until full. Use
the oil prescribed by fi g. 4.
OIL SUMP CAPACITY 0.6 L.
CHECK THE OIL LEVEL OFTEN, PARTICULARLY
DURING THE RUNNING-IN PERIOD.
CAUTION: letting the engine run with a
low oil level can seriously damage the
engine.
Make sure that the dip-stick is securely
tightened into its hole, when the engine is
running.
FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS:
- use SUPER or UNLEADED gasoline.
- NEVER use OIL - GASOLINE mixture, OLD
or DIRTY gasoline.
- prevent dirt, dust, water and other impurities
from getting into the fuel tank. We suggest to
fi lter the fuel (fi g. 6).
ATTENTION - Storage period:
if the engine
is not used for over 20 days we advise you to
empty the fuel tank completely. The carburetor
should be emptied by depressing the drain
push-button. This is to prevent scaling inside
the tank and the carburetor.
Do not fi ll the fuel tank completely, but just up to
1 cm (0.4 in) from the top of the tank, to provide
space for fuel movement (fi g. 6).
Wipe any fuel spillage from engine before
starting.
After each fi lling operation make sure that the
fi ller cap is securely closed.
FUEL TANK CAPACITY: 2.7 L.
GASOLINE IS VERY FLAMMABLE
AND ITS VAPOURS ARE HIGHLY
TOXIC.
NEVER FILL THE FUEL TANK
WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING
OR IN ENCLOSED PREMISES
NEVER START THE ENGINE
INDOORS OR IN POORLY VEN-
TILATED PREMISES
COLD ENGINE START
(when the engine has
not been running recently).
Open the fuel valve (fi g. 7), close the choke
knob (fi g. 8) and put the accelerator lever in
MAXIMUM position (fi g. 9).
NOTE: If the engine is remotely controlled,
follow the equipment manifacturer's instruc-
tions for remote control position which have to
correspond to engine control lever positions
as mentioned above.
CAUTION - Do not use starting fl uids like
ETHER for starting the engine, since it can
damage the engine.
1) RECOIL STARTING
Grasp the starter handle and pull the rope
out slowly, until the engine reaches the
compression Top Dead Center. Let the rope
rewind slowly. Giving a rapid, continuous
pull, start the engine and let the rope rewind
slowly (fi g. 10).
If the engine fails to start, close the choke
knob (fi g. 8).
When the engine starts, push the choke knob
(choke plate open) bring the accelerator lever
to the idle position and let the engine run for
some time to warm up before using it.
2) ELECTRIC STARTING
Turn the key on START (fi g. 3). As soon as the
engine has started, open the choke.
CAUTION:
to prevent damage to the electric starting
system only engage starter for a maximum
of 8-10 seconds each time. Wait about 10
seconds between attempts.
the rectifying diode will be damaged within a
few seconds if the engine runs without being
connected to the battery.
