Appendix B: Configuring the IP Phone at the Asterisk IP 

PBX

The following configuration illustrates how to create a user with an 

extension to make and receive calls using the Asterisk as the PBX. This 
configuration is defined in the 

sip.conf

 file present along with the other 

configuration files that are created when Asterisk is installed. Usually, the 
configuration files can be found at the

 /etc/asterisk

 directory.

After this is defined in the “sip.conf” file, some information has to be 
entered in the “extensions.conf” file present in the same directory as the 
“sip.conf” file. The following definition in the file under the [sip]section/
context completes defining the extension for the 480i phone.
