4.2.2 VDSL USER and CO Telco Ports
The VES-1012 has two Telco-50 connectors for VDSL end-user and CO telephone line connections. Telco cables
must be bought separately and wired as shown in the
Appendix – Pin Assignment
.
“CO” refers to Central Office, Telephone Company or PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network).
“USER” refers to the VDSL end-user with a VDSL modem, for example the P841.
The VES-1012 leverages existing phone line wiring to provide Internet access. VDSL service can coexist with
POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). The line from the user
carries both the VDSL and voice signals. For each line, the VES-1012 has a built-in splitter that separates the
high frequency VDSL signal from the voice band signal and feeds the VDSL signal to the VES-1012, while the
voice band signal is diverted to the
CO
(Central Office) port.
To complete a VDSL connection, connect the line from the end-user VDSL modem to the
USER
port and the line
from the central office switch or PBX (Private Branch Exchange) to the
CO
port.
See the previous chapter for different VDSL to MDF wiring scenarios.
