Network Time Protocol
Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers, located on the Internet all
over the world, supply the current time when requested. Although the
ZoomAir AP11 does not have an internal time-of-year clock, it has the
ability to discover the date and time from an NTP server. The
ZoomAir AP11 can then stamp each log and diagnostic message with
a time and date.
You can configure the ZoomAir AP11 with the IP address of an NTP
server and indicate how often the NTP server should check the
current time. If your organization has an NTP server, you should use
the IP address of that server. If not, a search of the web will provide
you with a current list of available NTP servers. In most cases, you
should ask the manager of an NTP server before you use it
.
Internet Service Providers
There are several ways to get an Internet address or a range of Internet
addresses. The easiest, fastest way is to contact an Internet Service
Provider (ISP). These organizations ordinarily act as brokers; an ISP
may have an entire Class B or Class C address from which it “leases”
(assigns) IP addresses or ranges of addresses to clients for a monthly
fee.
There are other ways to obtain an official IP address. A good place to
start is The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers at
www.icann.org . ICANN, a non-profit corporation, was formed to
assume responsibility for the IP address space allocation, protocol
parameter assignment, domain name system management, and root
server system management functions now performed under U.S.
Government contract by IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers
Authority), and other entities
