The following table provides hints for solving common problems. If you cannot solve the problem
or if you are unsure about a certain technical difficulty, contact your local ZEISS service represen-
tative.
Sympton
Cause
Measure
No charge compensation
Insufficient N₂ gas flow.
§
There is no N₂ gas pres-
sure to the microscope.
§
Teflon or silicone hose is
disconnected.
§
Hose is damaged.
§
Gas flow valve is not con-
nected electrically
§
Ensure gas supply is
turned on and connected
to the microscope.
§
Remake internal gas flow
connections.
§
Replace the hose.
§
Check electrical connec-
tion to valve.
If required, contact a ZEISS
service representative. Refer to
.
Specimen chamber does
not pump down.
Focal CC is turned on.
Turn Focal CC off to pump
down.
Lower ion pump trips
when Focal CC is turned
on after high vacuum op-
eration.
Ion pump is outgassing too
quickly.
Always increase Focal CC flow
slowly over one hour when us-
ing Focal CC after a period of
high vacuum work.
May require switching the mi-
croscope off and on again.
Increasing gas flow does
not affect the system vac-
uum.
There is a problem with valve
or electronic control of the
valve.
Contact a ZEISS service repre-
sentative. Refer to
.
Increasing gas flow does
not affect any of the
charge compensation
Gas is not reaching the speci-
men block.
Check the Teflon and silicone
hose connection and the noz-
zle location.
100 % flow does not
compensate all charge.
This is normal.
The system is designed for a
specific application to help
charging problems with low
injection conditions.
Reduce the EHT.
Make thicker cuts if the EHT is
too high.
The system is designed to
compensate modest amounts
of charge in stained regions of
interest as long as the nozzle is
correctly positioned close to
the specimen block face at the
right height.
Confirm precise location of
nozzle. The nozzle should be
visible at low magnification,
but this may require to retract
the BSE detector.
Confirm nozzle height is ap-
propriate. The center of the
nozzle bore should point at
the ROI on the specimen.
