Notes on  

care and maintenance 

Proper function of the microscope illuminator 
requires that only components and spares are 

used that have been supplied or approved for 
use by Carl Zeiss. In case of doubt, contact Carl 

Zeiss Service. 
Do not perform any actions on the device other 

than those described in this operating manual. 
We want to emphasize that actions not 
described here may only be performed by 

authorized persons. 
Damaged equipment’s or components may only 

be repaired and serviced by Carl Zeiss Service. 
 

 

 

 

 

 

Replace the burner (lamp) after the 

mean 

lifetime

refer to data sheet of lamp manufacturer

has elapsed;  
otherwise, there is an increased 

risk of 

explosion

You can read the operating time of the lamp 

from the hour meter of the corresponding 
power supply unit (refer to Fig. 4/

2

). 

 

 

To replace the burner, follow the steps 
described in 

Section 3.3

. 

 

When replacing the burner, check the leads 

of the HBO 50. 

If the housing of the microscope illuminator is 

dirty, you can clean it. 
Do not use a solvent for cleaning. 

Immerse the cleaning cloth in a mixture of 
water and a dash of a detergent, remove the 

dirt and dab the housing dry with a clean cloth. 

To clean the lamp power supply unit, only use a 
dry, lintless cloth taking care that no dust or 

other foreign bodies enter the device through 

the ventilation slots. 
In the case of damages (also external ones), 
immediately shut down the device and have it 

serviced.

Notes on disposal 

 

The HBO 50 AC (L1 / L2) burners contain little 

quantities of mercury! 
Do not dispose of the burners with household 
waste. 

Dispose of the lamps in their original packing in 

compliance with legislation. 
In case of doubt, contact Carl Zeiss Service or an 
OSRAM agency.

Notes on warranty 

The manufacturer of the equipment is not liable 

for damages caused by unauthorized 
interventions, particularly those caused by the 

removal or the exchange of device components 
or by the use of accessory items of other 
manufacturers. Unauthorized intervention 

will 

void all warranties
