CHECKING THE TRANSMISSION

1. Check:

• Transmission gears

Blue discoloration/pitting/wear 

→

 Replace 

the defective gear(s).

• Transmission gear dogs

Cracks/damage/rounded edges 

→

 Replace 

the defective gear(s).

2. Check:

• Transmission gear engagement

(each pinion gear to its respective wheel 
gear)
Incorrect 

→

 Reassemble the transmission 

axle assemblies.

3. Check:

• Transmission gear movement

Rough movement 

→

 Replace the defective 

part(s).

INSTALLING THE TRANSMISSION

1. Install:

• Oil seal “1” 

(to the transmission case cover “2”)

• Oil seal “3” 

(to the right crankcase “4”)

2. Install:

• Circlip “1” 

(to the drive axle “2”)

TIP

Install the circlip with its chamfered side facing 
as shown.

3. Install:

• Primary driven gear “1”

(to the main axle “2”)

4. Install:

• Transmission case cover “1”

TIP

Tighten the transmission case cover bolts in the 
proper tightening sequence as shown.

 

Installed depth “a”

21.7–21.8 mm (0.85–0.86 in)

Installed depth “b”

0.25–0.75 mm (0.01–0.03 in)
