ULTRIX Operating system that runs on DECStations. It consists of a
hierarchical system of commands, shells, files, and directories.

UNIX Operating system for computers, usually working in a network
environment. UNIX consists of a hierarchical system of commands,

user interface (UI) System for gathering input from a user and presenting data to the
user.
virtual page Page area selected by a forms designer for printing.
virtual printers Alternate names for the printer which allow different sets of default
attributes to be applied to submitted jobs. The operator and system
administrator define virtual printer names and the associated set of
attributes and values.
workstation Computer able to process data but designed specifically for
interaction with a network.
write To record data in memory or an external storage medium.
write protection Data protection feature implemented on magnetic media (e.g., floppy
disk) to prevent stored data from being modified, written over, or
erased.
xerographic mode There are two xerographic modes: black mode or highlight mode.
Black mode allows printing with black dry ink only, while the highlight
mode enables highlight color printing.
