Export the Root CA Certi fi cate
In the Certi fi cate Authority (CA) server, export the root CA certi fi cate.
To export the root CA certi fi cate:
1. Log in to the Certi fi cate Authority (CA) server.
2. Open a Microsoft Management Console window (for example,enter mmc.exe in the Start menu
search fi eld).
3. From the console window, select File > Add/Remove Snap-in .
4. Add the Certi fi cates snap-in, selecting Computer account and then Local computer .
5. Click Finish , and OK to close the Add or Remove Snap-ins dialog.
6. From the console, select Certi fi cates (Local Computer) > Trusted Root Certi fi cation Authorities >
Certi fi cates .
7. In the right panel, right-click the certi fi cate, and select All Tasks > Export .
8. Follow the wizard to export the certi fi cate:
a. Select Base-64 encoded X.509 (.CER) .
b. Click Browse , specify a name and location for the certi fi cate, and then click Save .
c. Click Finish , and then click OK .
Create a Certi fi cate Template for Client Authentication
In the CA server, create a certi fi cate template for client authentication.
To create a certi fi cate template for client authentication:
1. From the CA server, click Start > Administrative Tools > Certi fi cation Authority .
2. Expand the tree for your CA.
3. Right-click Certi fi cate Templates , and then click Manage .
4. Right-click the Computer template, and then click Duplicate Template .
5. Con fi gure the template as follows:
a. From the Compatibility tab, select Windows Server 2003 .
