Preparing SmartDiscV.24 for Remote Access / Configuration
SmartDiscV.24 can be connected to and configured with a PC by means of a
null modem cable. Data transmission equipment can also be connected to the
serial interface in order to allow the establishment of a connection between
the PC and SmartTel Receiver software
(see “5.6 Configuration of External
Modems” on page 46)
.
Preparing SmartDiscISDN for Remote Access / Configuration
In order to configure SmartDiscISDN over the internal ISDN TA instead of over
the serial interface, the device must be connected with the ISDN network by
means of the S
0
cable.
ISDN system, addi-
tional subscribers
Problems can arise when the device is operated in an ISDN system and/or
when additional subscribers that also use data services are connected to the
S
0
bus.
MSN
The MSN for the ISDN connection can be specified in the transmitter options.
Telephone systems
In the event of faults in the ISDN network (can happen with some telephone
systems), it may be necessary to reset the ISDN connection. A sporadic reset
can be activated in the system settings.
Preparing SmartDiscTCP/IP for Remote Access / Configuration
In order to configure SmartDiscTCP/IP over the network, the device can be
connected directly to a PC or laptop with the included crossover cable. In this
special cable, the lines are switched so that a network hub is not required for
a connection.
Connecting SmartDiscTCP/IP with the crossover cable
The default IP address of the TCP/IP adapter is 192.168.31.95 with subnet
mask 255.255.255.0. Proceed as follows to establish a connection with your
computer:
1.
Connect SmartDiscTCP/IP to your PC or laptop with the
crossover cable and switch both devices on.
2.
Check to see if the TCP/IP protocol has been installed on
your PC, and install it if necessary. Set the IP address to
192.168.31.02 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
3.
Enter the TCP/IP address 192.168.31.95 in the Dial list in
SmartTel Receiver software, activate TCP/IP (Setup PortA)
and establish a connection.
The default IP address in SmartDiscTCP/IP can be changed if necessary. In this
case, you must configured the device with the null modem cable
(see “4.2
Remote Access and Configuration” on page 25)
.
If you wish to use the device directly in an intranet with other computers ,
please use a standard patch cable instead of the crossover cable.
