1. Protocol
Protocol Protocol
Protocol - Uses the inherent protocol in the digital signal to start
and stop the recording when the protocol signals a conversation
is going on.
2. Audio Audio Audio Audio - Doesn’t use the protocol, but looks if the audio channels
are in use, and starts the recording when there is audio to
record. The recording is stopped again after some period of
silence. This works even when the protocol is unknown, or
unsupported.
3. Switch
Switch Switch
Switch - Uses an external switch to start a recording. This can be
a “big red switch”, a relay contact of the digital audio source, or
an “off-hook switch” of some kind.
4. Manually Manually Manually Manually - uses the red recording button on the recorder to start
a recording, so the user can decide if and when recording takes
place, instead of recoding everything. The square stop button
stops the recording again.

settings menu.
4.4 Protocol
In case the start method has been set to Protocol the next menu item
will be the protocol selection.
Which Protocol to choose depends on the make of the telephone and
PBX. The Single Digital supports four protocols at the moment:
Siemens, Avaya, Philips and ISDN.

NOTE 1 : In case ISDN is selected as the protocol, the recorder is capable
of recording two calls at the same time, started and stopped by the ISDN
protocol. With other protocols this is not possible. Only when the Start
method is set to Audio the recorder can recognize a call on the second
line/channel and therefore record two calls simultaneously.
