TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem
Possible Cause
Solution
During grooving, loud
thumps or bangs occur
about once every
revolution of the pipe.
Pipe has a pronounced weld
seam.
Grind welds flush with pipe
surface inside and out 2" back
from pipe end.
Pump won’t start or
lower roll won’t rotate.
Main power is off.
Thermal units tripped.
Fuses blown.
Turn on main power.
Reset thermal units.
Check fuses and replace as
necessary.
Tool comes up to
operating pressure
excessively slow.
Air in hydraulic system.
Bleed air from hydraulic system.
Upper roll won’t rotate
Dirt trapped between roll and
slide or retaining plate.
Remove upper roll and clean off
dirt. Re-install upper roll.
