professionals qualified to administer anesthesia.
General Description
The EX3000 Veterinary Anesthesia System is a device that administers oxygen to patients. The machine
is also capable of delivering an anesthetic agent in the form of a vapor. The vaporizer converts a liquid
anesthetic into a measured amount of vapor, which is then carried to the patient by the oxygen.
Before anesthesia can be administered, the operator must connect oxygen to the anesthesia machine, fill
the vaporizer with anesthetic agent, and fill the absorber canister with absorbent. The breathing bag,
patient breathing circuit, and all accessory tubing and bags must then be connected. After the oxygen
supply is turned on and the scavenger tubing is connected to the waste gas elimination system, the
anesthesia system is ready for the daily pre-operation checkout and patient use.
The operator selects the oxygen flow rate by touching the green dot on the touch screen (see Figure 1-5)
and then touching the increase arrow (
S
) or decrease arrow (
T
) until the desired flow rate is displayed.
Next, the operator selects the anesthetic agent, such as Sevoflurane or Isoflurane, by touching the Agent
Type area of the touch screen and then using the increase or decrease arrows until the desired agent is
displayed.
Then the operator selects the anesthetic concentration percentage by touching the Vaporizer
Concentration Percentage area of the touch screen and using the increase or decrease arrows until the
desired percentage of agent to be delivered is displayed.
The wye connector of the patient breathing circuit is then attached to the mask or 15 mm endotracheal
tube connector. The gas mixture flows through the inspiration valve into the patient’s lungs. The patient
exhales through the expiration valve into the breathing bag.
In the breathing bag, the exhaled gas mixes with the constantly flowing fresh gas. The fresh and exhaled
gas mixtures are forced through the CO
2
absorber where the exhaled carbon dioxide is removed and the
ventilation cycle is repeated.
