4.3 Measurement of Signal Frequency
by Frequency Counter
In order to more accurately measure signal frequency,
spectrum analyzer provides frequency counter function.
Compared with marker measurements, it is able to more
accurately measuresignal frequency. In the following
example, continuous-wave signal (500MHz, -10dBm)
generated by signal generator (Agilent E4421B) as signal
to be measured.
Operation steps:
1. Connect equipment
Connect signal output of signal generator with RF input on
the front panel of spectrumanalyzer.
2. Use frequency counter to measure frequency
- Press FREQ key;
- Press [Center frequency] key, and input 500MHz;
- Press SPAN key;
- Press [Span] key, and input 10MHz;
3) Open marker
- Press MARKER key;
- Press PEAK key; marker will be at the peak of
signal, and frequency and amplitude at marker are
displayed on the upper right of screen grid;
4) Use frequency counter to measure frequency
- Press MARKER key;
- Press [Next page] key;
- Press [Frequency marker function] key;
- Press [Frequency counting] key;
