Strip approximately 26mm from the end of optical fi ber by using Auto Thermal Stripper.
You can use either fi ber clamps for fi ber holders. After stripping the fi ber jacket from the
fi ber moisten a fi ber cloth with fi ber cleaning solution in the cleaning station and wipe
the optical fi ber clean. Be sure to remove the fi ber jacket scrap from the thermal stripper
plate prior to processing the next fi ber.
OPTICAL FIBER CLEANING AND STRIPPING
Install the optical fi ber on Cleaver as shown in the fi gure below and check optical fi ber’s
condition and cleaving length. When the optical fi ber is not properly positioned problems
may occur during the cleaving process or result in a low quality splice.
Pull down cover and press the button to cleave the fi ber. Lift the cleaving lever and take
the optical fi ber out.
Remove any fi ber fragments that did not drop into the chip bin and dispose them in a
proper container.
CLEAVING THE FIBER
Load the fi ber to the Swift K33A
Open the windshield cover and place the optical fi ber into the fi ber clamps or use a fi ber
holder. Repeat for the opposite side. SOC’s are always placed on the right side of the fusion
chamber.
Put the optical fi ber between V-Groove and electrode. Be careful not to make contact of
the tip of prepared optical fi ber with other objects, especially inside the splicer chamber
when placing the fi ber in position.
Close the windshield cover and press the SET button to initiate the arcing process to
fuse the fi bers together.
WARNING: DO NOT OPEN THE WINDOW COVER DURING THIS
PROCESS AND WAIT UNTIL THE PROCESS IS COMPLETE.
Proper fi ber preparation and positioning inside the splicing chamber will yield shorter
alignment times.
