Determine the left and right sides of the machine from the normal operating position.

Maintenance Procedure
After the first 5 hours
• Change the engine oil.
Before each use or daily
• Check the safety-interlock system.
• Clean and check the air cleaner foam element.
• Clean the engine air-intake screen.
• Check the cutting blades.
• Inspect the grass deflector for damage.
After each use
• Clean the mower-deck housing.
Every 25 hours
• Grease all the lubrication points.
• Check tire pressure.
• Check the belts for wear/cracks.
Every 50 hours
• Replace the air cleaner paper element.
• Check the spark plug.
Every 100 hours
• Change the engine oil (change it more often under a heavy load or in high
temperatures).
• Change the engine-oil filter.
• Replace the spark plug.
• Replace the in-line fuel filter
• Clean the engine-cooling fins and shrouds.
Before storage
• Charge the battery and disconnect battery cables.
• Perform all maintenance procedures listed above before storage.
• Paint any chipped surfaces.
Important:
Refer to your engine operator's manual for additional maintenance procedures.
CAUTION
If you leave the key in the ignition switch, someone could accidently start the engine and seriously injure
you or other bystanders.
Remove the key from the ignition and disconnect the wire from the spark plug before you do any
maintenance. Set the wire aside so that it does not accidentally contact the spark plug.

Raising the Seat
Make sure that the motion-control levers are locked in the
park position, and lift the seat forward.
The following components can be accessed by raising the seat:

Serial plate
•
Service decal
•
Seat-adjustment bolts
•
Fuel filter
•
Battery and battery cables
