ENGINE MAINTENANCE
ENGINE CRANKCASE OIL:
IMPORTANT!
Do not operate the engine with oil
level
below
the L mark or
over
the F mark on
the dipstick. Keep the area around the fill tube
clean to prevent dirt from falling into the engine.
3.
Make sure the oil drain plug is tightened to 10
ft. lbs. (13.6 N.m).
4.
Refill the crankcase with new oil of the proper
type, through the Fill Cap opening, using a
screened funnel. Refer to oil type on page 8. The
oil capacity is approximately 2 quarts (1.9 liters),
including filter.
5.
Check the level with the dipstick while adding
oil.
6.
Reinstall the oil fill cap and tighten securely.
Reinstall the dipstick.
WARNING
Continuous contact with used motor oil
has caused skin cancer in laboratory
mice.
Do not handle a hot oil filter with bare
hands.
Protect your skin by washing with soap
and water.

Check the oil level daily or before each use as
follows:
1.
Have the machine on a level surface with the
engine OFF. Tilt seat forward to gain access to
the engine compartment. (See FIG.14)
2.
Add oil if necessary to bring the level up to,
but not over, the F mark on the dipstick (See
FIG.15). For detailed instructions, see BEFORE
OPERATING, CHECK ENGINE CRANKCASE
OIL, page 17.
WARNING
Servicing the vehicle while the engine is
running or vehicle is not properly
secured, could result in personal injury
or death.
Before servicing or making adjustments
to the vehicle, set parking brake, stop
engine, and remove key from the switch.
AIR INTAKE/COOLING AREAS:
To ensure proper cooling, make sure the grass
screen, cooling fins, and other external surfaces
of the engine are kept clean
at all times.
Every 100 hours of operation
(more often under
extremely dusty, dirty conditions), remove the
blower housing and other cooling shrouds.
Clean the cooling fins and external surfaces as
necessary. Make sure the cooling shrouds are
reinstalled.
IMPORTANT!
Operating the engine with a
blocked grass screen, dirty or plugged cooling
fins, and/or cooling shroud removed, will cause
engine damage due to overheating.
NOTE:
To check the Air Intake, see Before
Operating, page 19.
