Plumbing Systems
5.1 Freshwater System
The freshwater system consists of a potable
water tank, distribution lines, and a distribu-
tion pump. The pump is equipped with an
automatic pressure switch.

space
The tanks are filled through the
labeled deck
fill on the starboard gunwale
.

Operation
DO NOT confuse other deck fills with the
freshwater fill. If toxic fluids or fuel is added
to a freshwater tank, the system will be con-
taminated. DO NOT attempt to pump fuel
out; this system is not designed to pump fuel.
Fuel must be removed by qualified person
-
nel only. Fuel in the freshwater systems will
also require replacement of that system and/
or many components.
DANGER
!
FIRE OR EXPLOSION HAZARD
Fuel and their vapors are highly explo-
sive when exposed to open flame or
spark, resulting in death or serious
injury. Do not confuse deck fills.
WARNING
!
HEALTH HAZARD
Disinfect the entire fresh (potable)
water system prior to first use, and
annually at the beginning of each
season. Failure to do so can result in
developing coliform bacteria or other
disease-causing organisms (patho-
gens) in the water system. Consump-
tion of contaminated water could
result in severe personal injury or
death.
Follow the instructions in section 5.2, Fresh
-
water System Commissioning, to disinfect
the system at the beginning of each season.
Once the system is commissioned, to refill
the water supply tank(s), use a dockside hose
and fill the tank(s) slowly through the
freshwa-
ter fill. The tanks should be filled until water
runs out of the vent located on the hull side
just below the fill. After filling the tank(s), par
-
tially open all faucets. Switch ON the
FRESH
WATER PUMP switch on the DC distribution
panel, located in the starboard cabin upper
electrical cabinet.
Allow the pump to run until
all of the air is purged from the system and a
steady stream of water is flowing from each
outlet. Next, turn off the faucets one by one.
As the pressure builds, the pump will auto
-
matically shut off.
When properly primed and activated, the
water system will operate like the water sys-
tem in a home. An automatic pressure sensor
keeps the system pressurized. If the system
has been recently filled or has not been used
for an extended period, air may accumulate
