CHAPTER 11: CASTERS, FORKS AND CASTER PIN LOCKS

WARNING
The threads on the Allen Screws that secure the T-Nuts within the footrest clamp assembly are treated with Vibra-
TITE
®
VC-3, a locking and sealing coating. You should be able to adjust the height of the footrest approximately four
times without reapplying the coating. TiLite requires that you reapply Vibra-TITE
®
VC-3 after every fourth adjustment.
If you ignore this Warning, your footrest could become loose or fall off and you could fall, tip over or lose control of the
wheelchair and seriously injure yourself or others or damage the wheelchair.
Frog Legs
®
Replacing the Elastomer Shock
Tools Needed:
• Two 5/32” Allen Wrench
1. Remove Allen Screws from hinge and push out the threaded spacer. See Figure 11-10.
2. Separate the two halves of the Frog Leg
®
to release the elastomer shock.
Note: The metal disc is glued to the top of the elastomer shock.
3. Install the new elastomer shock (making sure the metal disk is facing upward).
4. Push firmly on the two halves of the Frog Leg
®
to facilitate reinstalling the Allen Screws and threaded spacer.

The threads on the Allen Screw that connects the two halves of the Frog Leg

are treated with Loctite

medium strength thread lock. If you loosen this Allen Screw, you MUST remove and reapply Loctite
®
242

or an
equivalent medium strength thread lock.
If you ignore this Warning, your rear wheel could become loose or fall off
and you could fall, tip over or lose control of the wheelchair and seriously injure yourself or others or damage the
wheelchair.
Replacing Frog Legs
®
Tools Needed:
• 5/32” Allen Wrench
• 7/16” Open End Wrench
1. Remove the caster. See” Replacing Casters” on page 11-1.
2. Completely remove the Allen Screw and locknut that secures the “Bullet” Caster Housing. See Figure 11-11.
3. Slide the “Bullet” Caster Housing (and attached Frog Leg
®
fork) out of the caster barrel and remove the dowel.
4. Insert the dowel into the new “Bullet” Caster Housing attached to the new Frog Leg
®
fork and slide it into the
caster barrel.
