Appendix-A
Interface your Teledyne RDI CiTaDeL CTD/WorkHorse ADCP system with a Tele-
dyne Benthos modem.
A-1
WorkHorse ADCP Setup
Teledyne Benthos modems can support serial baud rates of 9600 baud with all
generations of hardware and the newer equipment can support up to 115,200 baud
though 9600 is still preferred.
Once the ADCP is set to the correct serial baud rate, CB411, all that needs to be
done is set CFxxx1x so that the ensemble data is sent to the serial port of the ADCP
and thus to the acoustic modem.
We recommend that CFxxxx1 be used when possible to allow for data recovery
from the internal ADCP memory card in the rare case of an acoustic environment
that will not support acoustic telemetry.
A-2
Benthos Modem Setup
The Benthos modem setup is described below:
a. In all configurations you will need to individually address each modem and set
the addresses to allow the modems to communicate with each other, this is
standard operating procedure for the modems:
-> Send ATS18=xxxx (where ‘xxxx’ is the address digits) [Firmware Version
5.x and 6.x] OR
-> Send @LocalAddr=xxxxx (where ‘xxxx’ is the address digits) [Firmware Ver-
sion 8.x]
NOTE.
Send ATI [Firmware Version 5.x and 6.x] and Version [Firmware Version
8.x] to verify your Teledyne Benthos modem firmware version.
b. Set the serial baud rate of the modem to 9600 baud (default just like the
WorkHorse ADCP).
c. Set the verbose level on the modem connected to the ADCP to off:
-> Send ATS13=0 [Firmware Version 5.x and 6.x] OR
-> Send @Verbose=Dis [Firmware Version 8.x].
d. Configure the data flow to meet your application needs.
In real-time applications set the operating modem to Online: -> Send ATS15=1
[Firmware Version 5.x and 6.x] OR
-> Send @OpMode=Online [Firmware Version 8.x]
Internal datalogging application set the operating modem datalogger to store
portions of the data set up to 704KB (v5.x & 6.x) or 6144KB (v8.x) they can se-
lect datalogger mode:
-> Send ATS15=2 [Firmware Version 5.x and 6.x] OR
-> Send @OpMode=Datalog [Firmware Version 8.x]
NOTE.
Refer to the Teledyne Benthos Modem Manual for more details.
