Offer the spat up to the under carriage leg. If it does not fit easily, carefully rub the edge of the leg
with sandpaper, both front and rear to ease the edges. Only rub a little of the leg at a time, check
the fit of the spat regularly to ensure that you are not taking too much off.
Next, place a wheel on the axle with a collet either side, and temporarily fit the spat to the under
carriage using one of the M3 bolts and a washer. Centre the wheel in the spat.
Now carefully remove the spat and move the collets so that they are close to the wheel hub.
Tighten the grub screw down onto the axle and then undo it. The grub screw will leave a mark on
the axle. Using a sharp file, make a ‘flat’ area on the axle at these points. This will give a good seat
for the grub screw to locate on.
