Chapter 6
End-User Documentation
Following are suggested topics to cover when creating end user documentation.
Scanning Hints
Position at an Angle
The bar codes to be read should not be presented to the scanner perpendicularly. This
orientation permits too much light to be reflected back into the photodiode, blinding the
optics. Position bar codes at a 15° angle to the scanner.
Scan the Entire Symbol
Be sure the bar codes are positioned so that the scan beam crosses all the bars and
spaces.
Troubleshooting
•
Check all the connections to be sure they are secure.
•
Check the system power.
•
Be sure the interface controller is programmed to read the type of bar codes you
are trying to decode.
•
Make sure the symbol is not defaced.
•
Be sure the symbol is aligned correctly and is within the range of the scanner.
