Mounting the kerb
1 Approach the kerb head on
driving forwards slowly and
steadily (Fig. 20).
2 As the kerb climber makes
contact with the kerb, the
wheelchair should be moving
slowly. Small kerbs can be
climbed from a standstill.
3 Apply sufficient power to the
motors to lift the front of the
chair up onto the kerb and then
apply slightly more power and
speed so that the drive wheels
climb the kerb smoothly and
without hesitation. As far as
possible, keep the joystick in the
straight forward position.
Using your wheelchair
Front transfers
If you find that the kerb climber
is obstructing your exit or entry
into the wheelchair you can swing
the kerb climber back into the
reverse position. Follow the fitting
instructions above, but rotate the
climber through 90° backwards
(Fig. 19). The kerb climber must be
returned to its operating position
prior to climbing kerbs.
