When the preparation is chosen and the individual programs entered,
the following procedure should be carried out:

Select the program step.

Place the grinding or polishing disc.

Secure the specimen holder in the quick-coupling.

Use the handwheel (fig. 3.

) to adjust the eccentricity so that the
grinding paper or polishing cloth can be used to full extent.
By using the disc diameter suggested in chapter 3, it is possible to
find a permanent position which makes adjustment between the
various steps unnecessary.
When grinding on Petrodisc-M and diamond grinding disc, it is
important that the entire surface is used. This means that the
specimens move out over the edge and in place over the recess in
the centre. This prevents uneven wear.


When polishing: dampen the polishing cloth
When plane grinding it is easiest to use adhesive paper. Double-
adhesive Discs can be used for this purpose.
When grinding on ROTAL: pour water on the disc by activating the
Manual Water key

. The grinding paper and retaining ring can then
be positioned.
When using ductile and soft materials which tend to tear the grinding
paper in pieces, it is advantageous to place a grain 1000 paper -
grains downwards - under the grinding paper to be used or to start
the grinding disc and water manually before starting the program
step.

Start the step by simultaneously pressing the double start buttons
until the specimen holder rotates.

When polishing: adjust the lubricant flow on the adjustment screw
and add diamonds for polishing.

When grinding: regulate the water volume at the tap if necessary.

The remaining time will be shown on the display which counts down
to 0. When the time has elapsed the grinding and polishing disc will
stop and the specimen holder will return to its initial position.

