9 7 STEERING
For the frequency of this intervention
see chapter 13
9 7 1 Checks
Gently turn the steering wheel back and forth.
There must be no mechanical play in the steering
chains.
9 7 2
Adjustment (
17
)
Adjust the steering chains if required as follows:
1
Put the machine in the straight-ahead posi-
tion.
2
Adjust the steering chains by means of the
two nuts, located under the central point
(17:A)
.
3
Adjust both nuts by the same amount until
there is no play.
4
Test drive the machine, moving it forward in
a straight line and checking that the steering
wheel is not off centre.
5
If the steering wheel is off centre, slacken
one nut and tighten the other.
Do not over tension the steering chains
This would make the steering too stiff
and increase wear on the chains.
9 8 BATTERY
For the type of battery installed on the machine,
please refer to
“0 TECHNICAL DATA TABLE”
Acid can cause serious injuries if it co
-
mes into contact with eyes or skin. If
any part of the body comes into contact
with acid, rinse immediately with co
-
pious amounts of water and seek medi
-
cal attention immediately
The battery fluid does not need checking or top
-
ping up. The only maintenance operation required
is charging, for example after extended storage.
The battery can be charged:
- by the engine,
- by a battery charger “STIGA SpA”.
9 8 1 Charging by the engine
This method is only an option if there is still
enough charge in the battery to be able to start the
engine.
• Take the machine outside.
• Start the engine by following the instructions
provided in this manual.
• Leave the engine running continuously for 45
minutes (the time needed to fully charge the
battery).
•
Turn off the engine.
