Pietenpol Sky Scout -
Background
The
Pietenpol Sky Scout UM
was designed as a lower-cost, follow-up to the enormously popular Air
Camper, Bernie Pietenpol’s first homebuilt design. A lower cost
(at the time)
Ford Model T engine was
used, rather than the more current Ford Model A engine of the time. The aircraft was redesigned to use
the heavier, lower-powered engine by making it to a single-seat aircraft. The new location for the pilot
required a section called a "flop" to be installed in the wing. Essentially, a section of the wing was hinged
up to allow the pilot to stand up when getting into and out of the aircraft.
The original drawings were published in the 1933 issue of Mechanix Illustrated Magazine. Designed to
be built out of spruce, plywood and fabric, by the aviation enthusiast, many versions of this popular
aircraft were built, and are still being built today.
Re
live the excitement of the golden age of aviation with our ultra-micro version of this famous aircraft.
The Stevens AeroModel kit offers a modern kit design that builds trouble-free and quickly, thanks to
