SERIES 3 FLASH POINT TESTERS
The Setaflash Series 3 Testers are a range of compact bench top/portable instruments designed to carry
out 'flash/no flash' tests or to determine flash point values up to 300°C (depending on model).
The operating principle of Setaflash Series 3 Testers is that a cup, containing the sample to be tested, is
electrically heated to a user set test temperature, then a manual flash test is carried out. On Closed Cup
models, a shutter in the lid is opened and a test flame is dipped into the vapour space above the sample.
Open Cup models have the test flame swept across the face of the sample cup. It can be determined if a
sample has a flash point above or below the test temperature by detecting whether a flash has occurred or
not. A sequence of tests at different temperatures can be used to determine the flash point of the sample.
There are four Closed Cup variants of the Setaflash Series 3 Tester; Model 30000-0; Model 33000-0
(Series 3 ‘Plus’), is similar to the model 30000-0, with the addition of a ramp function to automatically
increment the temperature for repeated tests until a flash is observed, or the end of the search range is
reached; Model 33200-2 (Series 3 ‘active cool’), is similar to the model 33000-0, but utilises peltier cell
technology to heat the sample cup, and provide active cooling for sub-ambient tests, and Model 33250-2, is
similar to the Model 33200-2, but is fitted with a Corrosion Resisting-Cup. An Open Cup tester, Model
31000-0, is also available.
All Closed Cup testers feature automatic flash detection. All models except the 33200-2 and 33250-2 have
a temperature range of ambient to 300°C (0 to 300°C when pre-cooled with the optional Coolant Module).
The 33200-2 and 33250-2 have a temperature range of 10 to 130°C (50 to 266°F), at an ambient
temperature of 20°C, without pre-cooling by external means.
