Chapter 4. Using Tape Drives in the RXT350
35
Using LTO Drives
The front panel of an LTO drive (Figure 4-1) has a light-emitting diode (LED) and a
single-character display (SCD).
LTO Drive LEDs
When the LED is off, it means that the unit has no power or is powered off. If the LED
is
solid green
, the drive is powered on. If it is
solid amber
, the drive is either powering
on or is in maintenance mode.
If the LED is
flashing green
, the drive is reading from the tape, writing to the tape,
rewinding the tape, locating data on the tape, loading the tape, or unloading the tape.
The status light also flashes green if the drive contains a cartridge during the power-on
cycle. In this case, the drive completes writing the current data and slowly rewinds the
tape (the process may take up to 13 minutes). The light stops blinking when the drive
completes the recovery and is ready for a read or write operation.
If the LED is flashing amber, there may be a problem with the drive or the tape. See
LTO Tape Drive Troubleshooting
on page 68.
LTO Drive SCDs
The SCD is blank during normal drive operation. If a code appears on the drive’s SCD,
see
LTO Tape Drive Troubleshooting
on page 68.
