2-2
2-2 TOC
The position and ID number of each recording block are registered in the TOC and
recorded on the tape immediately before the EOD. This allows searching to be performed
by specifying an ID number. In addition, the TOC must also be read before appended
recording after the EOD or when overwriting a pre-recorded tape. Note that when using
cartridges with MIC (described hereafter), and when the tape is loaded, TOC data on the
tape has been read and registered in the flash memory (data is not lost even if the power
is turned off) inside the recorder. These recorders are called “TOC-registered recorders”.
When a cartridge with MIC is loaded to a TOC-registered recorder, the TOC data can be
used immediately without having to read the TOC on the tape. Conversely, the TOC data
cannot be used immediately when the TOC on the tape has not yet been read for a cartridge
without MIC, or when the number of ID blocks on a cartridge with MIC exceed 100 and
the TOC has not yet been registered in the recorder.
2-3 MIC (Memory In Cartridge)
A portion of the TOC (up to ID 100) can be copied into a flash memory mounted inside the
cartridge. Therefore, the TOC of cartridges recorded with ID blocks up to 100 can be used
immediately. In addition, even if the recorded ID blocks exceed 100, the TOC data can be used
immediately when loaded to a “MIC-registered recorder”.
