Cleaning the tray and disc media
The DVD±RW drive may be unable to read data
correctly if dust accumulates inside the drive or on the
tray. Use the following procedure to periodically clean
the tray and disc media.
1
Power on the Digital Media Workstation.
2
Press the tray open/close button on the front panel
of the DVD±RW drive.
The tray opens.
3
If there is a disc loaded on the tray, lift it lightly off
the tray.
Be careful not to touch the data side (the reverse
side, with nothing printed on it) of the disc.
4
Remove dust from the tray by wiping the tray with
a soft, dry cloth.
Note
Do not attempt to clean the lens. Doing so can
scratch the lens and result in misoperations.
5
Press the tray open/close button to close the tray.
6
Wipe the data side of the disc with a soft, dry
cloth.
Wipe as shown in the following figure, from the
center of the disc outward.
Note
If you wish to use a cleaner, make sure that is designed
especially for disc media. Do not use benzene, thinner,
or sprays or cleaners designed for records to clean
discs. Doing so can render the data on the disc
unreadable, and may result in damage to the Digital
Media Workstation when the disc is loaded.
