similar can be used to push the blade smoothly

NOTE

: Do not remove the blade clamp as this can change the factory

settings for the cutting depth adjustment. Also do not adjust the height
adjusting screws
3. Reverse the blade or slide a new blade, in the correct position, back into

the blade clamp

4. Check the edge of the blade aligns with the side of the sole plate
5. Tighten all bolts equally
6. Repeat this procedure for the other blade
7. Before connecting to power, rotate the drum by hand to check that it

does not catch or snag

Fitting a drive belt

A spare drive belt is included with your planer. To fit the belt:
1. Undo the screws and remove the Drive Belt Cover (6)
2. Remove the failed belt and clean any debris from the belt pulleys and

surrounding area

3. Fit the belt over the small pulley then, rotating the large pulley with one

hand, use the other hand to push the belt onto the large pulley

4. Replace the drive belt cover and refit the screws so that the cover is

secured firmly in position

Replacing the brushes

•  Over time, the carbon brushes in the motor will wear away. This wear

process will be accelerated if the machine is used in dusty environments
or if the machine is overloaded

•  If the brushes have become excessively worn, motor performance may

decrease; the machine may fail to start, or excessive sparking may occur

•  A spare set of brushes is included with the planer.

To fit replacement brushes:

1. Unfasten the screws and remove the machine casing. This is on the

opposite side of the planer to the Drive Belt Housing (6). (The housings
for the brushes are on either side of the central core)

2. Using the blade of a screwdriver, carefully lever up each brush housing in

turn to check the condition of the brushes

3. If the brushes are worn, replace with new brushes. NOTE: If either brush

needs replacing, always replace both brushes

4. Refit the machine casing

Storage

•  Store this tool carefully in a secure, dry place out of the reach of children

Disposal

•  Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic

equipment, with household waste Contact your local waste disposal
authority for information on the correct way to dispose of tools

Making a cut

1. Set the depth of cut required by rotating the depth adjustment handle to

the appropriate number (mm of cutting depth)

2. Hold the planer securely, using both hands, and rest the front edge of the

Sole Plate (8) on the edge of the workpiece

3. Check that the cutter is not in contact with the workpiece, or any other

object

4. To start the planer, depress the Safety Lock Off Button (3), and squeeze

the Trigger Switch (5). To stop the machine, release the trigger switch

5. Allow the motor to reach full speed, then push the planer forwards across

the workpiece

6. Maintain a steady movement, and ensure that the sole plate is kept

pressed against the workpiece

•  Allow the cutter to move off the end of the material before releasing the

trigger switch

•  Do not set the machine down until the cutter has stopped completely
•  If a deep cut is required, repeat the above steps

Using the guide fence

To work parallel to an edge, use the Guide Fence (12)
•  The guide fence is very useful for maintaining a straight cut when, for

example, trimming doors

•  If you have a lot of edges to plane, adjust the position of the fence in

stages so that the entire width of the blade is used progressively, thereby
extending the life of the blade

•  Use one of the T-grip screws to attach the guide fence at the Guide Fence

Attachment Point (9). Ensure that the fixing bracket fits between the stiles
on the planer body

•  The position of the guide fence can be adjusted to suit different tasks
•  To follow an edge, make the cut as above (‘Making a cut’) keeping the

fence pressed against the face of the workpiece

Using the rebate depth guide

To cut a rebate, use the rebate guide
1. Use a T-grip screw to fit the Rebate Depth Guide (11) into position on the

left of planer body (when viewed from the front)

2. Ensure the fixing bracket fits between the stiles on the planer body
3. Set the required rebate depth using the scale on the rebate guide and the

arrow marked on the housing

•  When the rebate depth guide rests on the surface of the workpiece, the

rebate is cut to the depth required

•  You can use the guide fence tight up against the workpiece during each

pass to help maintain a straight edge to the rebate

Chamfering

•  The Chamfer Groove (7) allows you to cut a 45˚chamfer on the edge of

a workpiece

•  To cut a chamfer, locate the edge to be cut in the chamfer groove
•  Cut as usual, but hold the planer at 45˚

Maintenance

WARNING

: Always disconnect from power supply before carrying out any

maintenance/cleaning.

Cleaning

•  Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts

to wear quickly, and shorten the machine’s service life. Clean the body of
your machine with a soft brush, or dry cloth. If available, use clean, dry,
compressed air to blow through the ventilation holes

Changing blades

WARNING

: Take great care, and do not touch the cutting edge of the blades.

The blades fitted on the planer have two cutting sides and are reversible. To
reverse the blades or fit new blades:
1. Using the spanner supplied, loosen the three clamp bolts securing the

blade assembly, by making a half-turn clockwise (approximately)

2. Holding the blade clamp in position, gently slide the blade out of the

blade clamp through the slot in the tool housing. A piece of wood or
