7 Checking the unit (OQ)
Once the user knows how the unit works, proceed to check it. This operation is known
as Operation Qualification (OQ).
There are two levels of qualification:
7.1 Functional checking
This checking is without solvent. Do not place any beaker and thimble into the extractor.
Diagnostics utility (See chapter 9) can be used for this functional check.
Set a temperature of 100ºC and verify that the temperature of the heating surface
stabilizes at about 100ºC ± 10ºC, it remains stable and is uniform throughout the
surface.
7.2 Solvent recovery checking
This OQ operation measures the solvent recovery rate.
• Prepare 2 or 6 aluminium beakers (on depending equipment model)
• Measure with a cylinder 50ml of solvent, for each beaker.
• Insert the beakers on the DET GRAS N.
• Run a P0 program. If done with another solvent, the recovery time may vary,
becoming necessary in some cases up to 30 minutes:
Temperature:
According to solvent used.
Boiling:
15
minutes.
Rinsing:
15
minutes.
Recovery:
10 minutes.
• Let the unit get cold for 20 minutes.
- Let PTFE manual valves close.
- Let coolant water open.
• Remove the beakers set.
• Insert another cold set of aluminium beakers.
• Open PTFE manual valves. All solvent must fall into the beakers.
• Measure the volume of solvent recovered on any beaker (Use a cylinder). Work
quickly to avoid solvent evaporation.
• Calculate the recovery rate:
R(%) = V
2
/ V
1
*100
• Normal recovery values are above 50 %.
