How to Steer Boat
F09L12Y
TYPICAL — RIGHT-HAND TURN
Turning the steering pivots the jet
pump nozzle which controls the boat
direction. Turning the steering to the
right will turn the boat to the right and
inversely. The throttle should be ap-
plied to turn the boat.
WARNING
Throttle must be applied and steer-
ing turned to change the direction
of the boat. Steering efficiency will
differ depending on the number
of passengers, load, water condi-
tions and environmental factors
such as the wind.
A jet propelled boat needs some throt-
tle to turn. Practice in a safe area apply-
ing the throttle and turning away from
an imaginary object. This is a good col-
lision avoidance technique.
WARNING
Directional
control
is
reduced
when the throttle is released and
lost when the engines are off.
How to Engage Neutral
WARNING
The drive shafts and impellers are
always turning when the engines
are running, even in neutral posi-
tion. Keep away from the propul-
sion system of the boat.
To obtain neutral, place throttle/shift
lever to the upright position. Reverse
gates will be in the middle position,
directing half of the thrust toward the
front of the boat to minimize move-
ment.

How to Engage Forward
The throttle/shift lever should be in the
forward position in order for the boat to
advance.
To engage forward thrust from neu-
tral, press the release button on the
throttle/shifter lever head and push the
lever forward. The gate will move to
forward thrust position and the boat
will accelerate forward.
