Electro-stimulation cannot be a substitute for active muscle training
but does represent an attractive supplement. It enables the training
of muscles for which the sportsman or woman has insufficient time
to employ the classic training methods. We recommend the use of the
regeneration and relaxation programs after a muscle training session.
P17 Resistance
This program employs longer term high level exertion of strength. The
advantage of the electro-stimulation is the absence of mental fatigue
and the limited strain on the heart/blood circulation system (no active
muscular contractions). The muscle is exhausted after a stimulation
session. In order to increase its resistance, the muscle must be
confronted with a heavy workload. In these cases relatively large
tetanic contractions and very short active work breaks are employed.
P18 endurance
This program serves as a supplement to endurance training. It employs
medium level exertions of strength of longer duration and acts on the
slow muscle fibres. In this manner the program can train the oxidative
capacity of the muscles.
P 19 Strength training
This program is designed exclusively for sportsmen and women who
require high level exertion of strength over short periods. It promotes
the power of maximum muscle contractions. This program can be used
as a supplement for most types of sport. It comprises the alternating
tetanic contractions of the fast muscle fibres and the long, active work
breaks.
P20 explosive strength
Explosive strength is the ability of the musculature system to develop
maximum muscle tension in the shortest possible time. Explosive
strength necessitates high level activity of the fast reacting muscle
fibres and is therefore applicable for intensive but short exertions of
strength (for example jumping). The development and the maintenance
of explosive strength is only effective for persons who already
involved in intensive and active training programs. This program is not
designed to use as a start to muscle training.
P21 hypertrophy
This program serves to build up the musculature as a supplement to
active muscle strength training and to a balanced diet. It acts primarily
on the fast reacting muscle fibres. The best results are attained with
