3 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
For tubes with thin walls, the lifting capacity can be limited by the length. For long, flexible loads, always place the
magnet crosswise to the load in order to reduce the risk of the load peeling off.

Holding force
The rated holding forces in the “Technical specifications” table are based on a St 37 (S 235 JR) material with a
machined contact surface and thickness as per section 7.1.4.
The actual holding force depends on the following factors and must be determined before each use!
■
Air gap
between the magnet and workpiece caused by dirt, paper, burrs, damage, paint, etc.
■
Material thickness
of the load. The thinner the load, the lower the lifting capacity (refer to the capacity table
on page 39).
■
Length and width
of the load.
The lifting capacity is influenced by the sheet thickness. A sheet has to be at least as long as the magnet. Mini-
mum size of the sheet according to the 1st column in the table (see page 36) under “Lifting capacity”. For smaller
sheet sizes, reduces the lifting capacity according to the 2nd column.
If sheets are too large, however, they will sag, which produces an air gap between the magnet and the sheet.
This peel-off effect reduces the lifting capacity and limits the maximum sheet size. Use several magnets mounted
on a crossbeam, if necessary.
■
Material type/composition
The lifting magnets are intended for transporting ferromagnetic flat materials and round materials. A high alloy
percentage results in a low lifting capacity.
All stated rated holding forces refer to St 37 with 100 %. The are reduced to 90 % for cast steel, to 50 % for
stainless steel (V2A 430F) and to 10 % for nickel (refer to the material-dependent reduction factors on page 23).
For other materials, please consult the supplier.
■
The workpiece always has to fully cover the pole surfaces of the magnet and always with the same minimum
dimensions.
