5.4 Switching on and Operating the
Calibration Unit
Press the green start button to
switch the calibration unit on.
The following message will appear
in the display for 5 seconds:
„Sartorius MD8 Calibrating System,
Version 3.12“ (Fig. 7).
Fig. 7
Note
If the battery voltage is less than
8 Volt, the calibration unit will shut
itself off immediately.
In such an event, the power
supply must be connected and the
calibration unit recharged for at
least 10 hours.
After 5 seconds, “Sartorius MD8
Calibrating System start air sampler!”
will appear in the display (Fig. 8).
Fig. 8
Within 60 seconds of now, the
calibration should be started.
If the calibration is not started,
the unit will switch itself off after
60 seconds. The unit can be switched
back on again by pressing the green
start button again.
Note
The unit can also be switched off
by pressing the reset button. After
reset is pressed, the program in the
calibration unit will be reset to the
default values.
If the calibration unit identifies
any air flow during this 60-second
waiting time, the air flow rate will
be indicated on the display after
a delay of 3 seconds:
“Sartorius MD8 Calibrating System”
m

/h

l/min

Turn the 17658 connector (hose |
air sampler) clockwise to attach it
to the air intake port (Fig. 3) of the
air sampler (during calibration, no
filter holder is attached to the air
sampler). Attach the hose to the
end of the connector (Fig. 4) and
attach the 17659 connector (hose |
calibration unit) to the free end of
the hose. Now connect the 17659
connector to the air outlet port on
the calibration unit by turning it
clockwise (Fig. 5).
Make sure that the connections and
seals between calibration unit and
air sampler are tight. Figure 6
shows how the final setup looks
when it is ready for a calibration to
be carried out.
Fig. 6
!
For reading the calibration data, the
display will indicate the rate in m
3
/h
and l/min at the same time (Fig. 9)
Fig. 9
The calibration individual steps are
described in Sections 6 (for MD8
airscan) and Section 7 (for the
AirPort MD8).
Note
If during operation (calibration
procedure) the battery pack voltage
drops below 8.8 V, the following
message will appear in the display
“Battery is Empty, Plug Power
Supply”
The two lines in the display below
this will continue to indicate the air
flow rate in m
3
/h and l/min.
In this case, the power supply
included in the equipment supplied
must be connected to the mains
power.
The warning message in the
display disappears after a brief
period of external power supply
and “Sartorius MD8 Calibrating
System" appears again.
If the unit is not connected to
an external power supply (mains
power), the calibration unit will
switch itself off automatically (once
it reaches its discharge voltage).
This prevents the battery pack from
discharging too low.
