B INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
SALEWA Alpinist was developed as a crampon for alpine climbing and for glacier tours. It meets

the requirements of Standard EN 893:2010. This product was made for use on snow, ice and

rock and minimizes the the risk of slipping while progressing on those surfaces. The use of steel

crampons is recommended on rocks as they are more robust than aluminium crampons and

have a better grip on ice. Only use the product for the purpose for which it was constructed and

never burden it beyond its limits.
This product corresponds to the standard EN 893:2010. The correct use is shown in diagram B.

: Danger to life

: Risk of injury

: Correct use

WARNING:

We have not shown all possible misuses.

WARNING:

Misuse of this tool can lead to severe injury, falls and even death. You must be aware

of this and should only use this tool if you master its correct use.
Components:
A) Front frame
B) Heel frame
C) Hitch (Salewa Lock System)
D) Clamp / basket
E) Rocker lever attachment / basket
F) Connection bridge with two attachment points
G) Adjustment device
H) Belt with an adjustment buckle
I) Closure buckle
J) Antibot plate
Compatibility:
Ensure that you only use products which are compatible with the crampon, this is in particular

true for the boots and other footgear.
Alpinist Combi: Only use this system with a crampon-compatible shoe (semi-automatic), with a

corresponding heel on the reverse of the shoe which enables attachment.
Alpinist Walk: This system can be used with all solid boots.
Alpinist Pro: Select whether you wish to use the crampon with a clamp (D) or with the Salewa Lock

System (C) (optional)– never use both simultaneously. Assemble the closure system as shown in the

drawing.
With a clamp (D): Use this system exclusively with a fully crampon-compatible shoe (fully

automatic) with the corresponding heels for attachment at the back and the front. Fit the front

clamp into the recesses on the front frame and use it to adjust the front spike length.
With the Salewa Lock System (pat. pending) ( C) (optional):
The "Salewa Lock System for Alpinist Pro", art. 0890 can be purchased for the "Pro" version as

optional. The hook (C ) can be mounted onto the crampon, the plates need to be adapted to the

compatible skiing boot. For mounting them to your boot, please refer to your specialist dealer

who does this expertly. Use this system exclusively with shoe and skiing boot models compatible

with the Salewa Lock System. You can view these under www.salewa.com. Compatible footgear

is accordingly pre-equipped and must have a rigid sole. Pliable soles are not compatible with the

Salewa Lock System.
Size adaption (please refer to the graph): Adapt the crampon size using the adjustment device (G).

Ensure that it clicks into place correctly.
For small shoe sizes, remove the connection bridge (F), turn it 180° around its longitudinal axis and

hook it back up. Use it to avoid it protruding beyond the heel frame (B).
If available, use the adjustment wheel on rocker lever (E) for fine adjustment. Attachment of the

crampon to the boot (see graph): Only use the right or left crampon for the corresponding foot.
For this, thread the foot in the adapted crampon and close the respective closure system so

that either the rocker lever attachment (e) clicks firmly into place or the baskets are placed

without play. Thread the belt (h) correctly, its length can be adapted using the buckle, making it

unnecessary to shorten it. Tighten and close it.
Check the correct setting of the ties prior to each use.
Check its fit by standing on it, rotating your foot when standing, kicking against it at the front and

the rear and therefore burdening and unburdening the crampon several times over.

ATTENTION:

Poorly set or negligently attached crampons can loosen when the shoe is used.

Therefore, check all the components and their fit prior to and during use.

WARNING:

When walking on snow, the snow may freeze quickly beneath the crampon and cause

you to slip over; ensure that you avert this risk by being careful and checking regularly.

C SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Before use, carefully check each product part. Diagram C
Double check all the components of this product for wear marks, chips, frayed or singed fibres,

persons, or when the user is under the direct supervision of such a qualified person.

WARNING:

·If there is the least doubt about the safety of the product, it is to be replaced immediately.
·Any change to this product can reduce safety significantly.

D LIFESPAN

The lifespan of the product is dependent on a number of factors, such as the manner and

frequency of use, UV exposure, moisture, ice, effects of weather, storage conditions, and dirt

(sand, salt, etc.). Under extreme conditions the lifespan can be reduced to a single usageor even

less, if the equipment has suffered damage (for example during transport) before ever being

used. Please note: Products manufactured from synthetic fibres are subject to ageing even

when not used. This ageing depends mainly on environmental conditions as well as the impact

of UV light.
Indications of the product's maximum lifespan:

Never: Correct storage:

up to 10 years since production

Once or twice a year:

 up to 7 years

Once a month:

 up to 5 years

More times a month:

 up to 3 years

Every week:

 up to 1 year

Almost daily:

 up to 1/2 a year

The potential lifespan of metal products is unlimited, since the effective lifespan depends on the

previously mentioned factors. Salewa recommends replacing these products after maximum ten

years.

E CLEANING, STORAGE, TRANSPORT AND SERVICING

See diagram E for guidelines on correct storage and care.
Do not store close to sources of heat, or at extreme temperatures or subject to mechanical force

(with kinks, under compressive load, under tension) The product should NEVER come in contact

with corrosive chemicals such as battery acid, solvents, or chemical salts.
Ensure that the product is kept safe during storage and transport and is protected from damage.
Use suitable protective protective bags or transport containers for this. If necessary (e.g. contact

with dirt or saltwater), wash the product in lukewarm water and and rinse with clear water (max.

30°). Make sure that the product does not come into contact with chemicals. Leave to dry at

room temperature.
The product may neither be modified nor repaired. Feel whether the spikes on the crampon are

still sharp. If they are blunt, they must be carefully resharpened. Use a file for this and not a

grinding machine (please refer to the graph).
When parts are worn out, replace them exclusively with new original parts from Salewa, like the

antibot plates(J).
