Physical Inspection
Chapter 4. Maintenance Tasks

Physical Inspection
The HA4000 is housed in a tamper-evident chassis. Periodically check the chassis
for evidence of tampering. Items to look for include stripped screws and damaged
seals. Figure 4-1 shows the seal location.

How often the HA4000 is inspected physically depends on the value of the
intellectual property being protected and the security of the environment the
HA4000 is located in. For example, a locked equipment closet is more secure than
an open server room. SafeNet recommends checking the unit’s physical integrity
monthly, at a minimum.
Periodically perform maintenance on your HA4000:
z
Keep components free of dust and other particulate matter.
z
Check fans for reduced airflow caused by dust build-up, and clean as
necessary.
z
Examine cables and fiber for damage.
z
Ensure that airflow requirements are met.
No special maintenance is required.
Note:
The HA4000 contains a lithium battery. Battery replacement must
be performed by qualified SafeNet personnel.

Audit Logs
The HA4000 monitors network operations and records information about network
events or operations specific to an HA4000 in an audit log. The audit log
reconstructs an exact sequence of network events or device operations. The audit
log configuration determines the types of events that the HA4000 records and the
size of the files. Log file contents can be recorded in a file, displayed on the
terminal, or both. Log files can be exported to an FTP server for troubleshooting.
