Administrative Tasks
Chapter 3. Configuration
35
Example
This example uses the
snmp-server
command to provide identifying information
about the HA4000. Note the quotation mark usage.
config>
snmp-server contact "Jane Doe"
config>
snmp-server location "Building C, San Jose"
config>
snmp-server name "Storage Site 2"
Monitor SNMP-based Performance
Each HA4000 contains an SNMP agent that sends MIB objects to a requesting
network management application. The SNMP data is transmitted in the clear over
an unsecured connection. The HA4000 supports SNMP v2c.
1. Enable SNMP; go to “Enable SNMP” on page 32.
2. Identify the HA4000 to the SMC, using the management port IP address.
When the SMC knows the management port address, the SMC issues a packet to
the HA4000, which responds with MIB objects. View the reported data with the
network management application.
Administrative Tasks
There are only two administrator configuration tasks: setting passwords and
limiting the number of unsuccessful logon attempts.
Set Passwords
Administrators can change the Administrator and Network Manager passwords.
Passwords can contain alphanumeric characters and these special characters:
! @ # $ % ^ * ( ) _ + = - [ ] { } \ | ; : < >
Note:
Although these characters are valid in passwords, they may cause
problems with third-party scripting tools.
A password must contain at least one character. Passwords are case-sensitive.
Password text is suppressed on the CLI.
If the Administrator’s password is lost, all Administrator functionality is lost,
including the ability to assign a new password. The only way to reset the password
is to reformat the HA4000, which reverts all configurations to their default
shipping settings. Reformatting the HA4000 requires factory service.
